National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL)

National Center for Computational Toxicology (NCCT)

Scientist, Level IV   NAPCA needs a senior 55 years of age or older (PL-98-313) to work under the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program, for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Qualifications: Must be at least 55 years of age and have a college degree in Chemistry with at least two years of experience in chemical library management and chemistry. Have training in use of chemical structure drawing tools (e.g., ACD Labs, Marvin). Be proficient with MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities and Duties: – Review source information and register new chemical substances with correct structures into the Distributed Structure-Searchable Toxicity (DSSTox) chemical database using provided software tools. – Correct and document chemical record changes, store printouts. – Consult with Pl and chemistry team to resolve difficult issues with a chemical representation in the database.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor (BA/BS) degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years in data management utilizing computers and computer software programs, Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Excellent proofreading and analytical skills in order to make judgements to determine the significance of data.
  • Experience with data management and/or data entry.
  • Must be able to operate a copy machine, Facsimile Machine and scanner.

  • Ability to stoop, stand, and use step tool and small ladder.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Independently reviews and inputs data to various UIC databases and performs quality assurance /quality control checks to assure accuracy. Identifies discrepancies and violations of permit requirements and supports enforcement staff in resolving them.
  • Develops and maintains tracking systems for documents received including monitoring reports, permits, and other reporting requirements for Class I, II, III and V wells.
  • Assists in implementation of National UIC database and provides feedback on problems encountered.
  • Assists in analysis of information received and compiling of summary reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (ex. Copy, tax, distribute reports, filing, types correspondence and mails documents and Receptionist duties).

POSITION TITLE:                 Enforcement Services Coordinator – Level 4

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a monitor, the SEE enrollee assists in performing a variety of administrative and data management functions for the Superfund enforcement program, including but not limited to: preparing, reviewing and finalizing documents; data entry and retrieval; compiling information for reports; performing and assisting in research, assisting remedial and removal enforcement support by aiding with PRP searches, investigations, financial analysis and cost recovery.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST BE AT LEAST 55 YEAR OF AGE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF PL98-313.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Arts.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in Legal or legal secretary work requiring organizing data, investigative work and analyzing reports or paralegal training is a plus.
  • Excellent reading, writing and research skills.
  • Ability to perform tasks with careful attention to detail
  • Knowledge and experience with EPA requirements, and programs is a plus
  • Computer literate, Window operating system and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Access, Word Perfect, and PowerPoint) and Internet search experience.

POSITION DUTIES: 

  • Assists in preparing, proofing, and finalizing technical and legal correspondence.
  • Assist ESS Chief in preparing ESS enforcement related status reports including charts and graphics.
  • Logs, tracks, updates and maintains enforcement site lists. Mails and tracks enforcement correspondence.
  • Database/SharePoint entry and retrieval. Reserves conference rooms, conference lines and sets up Webinars.
  • Assists in PRP searches for names and addresses using various approved database which may require internet searches for names of companies, histories, board of directors, etc.

POSITION TITLE: Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Technician, Level 4

LOCATION: U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region V, Resource Management Division, Chicago Central Lab, 536 Clark Street, Chicago, IL

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a monitor, the SEE enrollee will provide assistance with the cleaning of air canisters used for air sampling and tracking their cleaning status in the R5 Lab database for these canisters. The SEE enrollee will follow complex written instructions (lab SOPs) that must be followed exactly to produce data that is of appropriate quality as determined by the laboratory Quality Assurance Coordinator. The SEE enrollee performs the analysis of blank samples from cleaned canisters following the CRL SOPs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST BE AT LEAST 55 YEAR OF AGE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF PL98-313.
  • College Degree (BS/BA).
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in chemistry or laboratories
  • Previous training in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat. Familiarization with technical database.
  • Ability to work independently.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Performs air canister cleaning.
  • Performs analysis of cleaned air canisters to verify their cleanliness.
  • Enters cleanliness information into the air canister tracking database.
  • Prepares clean canisters for shipment to the field for sampling.
  • Assists with the tracking of drinking water performance test results in the Region 5 PT database.
  • Other laboratory operation related assignments from the task monitor and the alternate monitor.

SALARY: $12.72 per hour, 30 hours/week. 15 vacation days and 12 sick days (Prorated for part time) plus free health insurance, and other benefits.

 

POSITION TITLE: Environmental Protection Specialist – Level 4

LOCATION: U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region V Superfund Division / Enforcement Services Section #3 (ESS #3)

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a monitor, The Enrollee is responsible for reviewing and mailing Freedom of Information (FOIA) requests, entering and retrieving related information into and from databases, referring requests to appropriate individuals, and updating the soon due list. The Enrollee is responsible for exercising independent judgment in caring out the assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MUST BE AT LEAST 55 YEAR OF AGE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS OF PL98-313.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Arts. In lieu of college degree 10 years of office administrative experience is acceptable which will consider as Level III $10.50.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and precedents.
  • Excellent proofreading and analytical skills in order to make judgements to determine the significance of FOIA requests.
  • Computer literate, Window 7 operating system and Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Access) and Internet search experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and deal effectively in team interactions.
  • A general knowledge of environmental rules and regulations, particularly the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Acts (SARA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Freedom of Information Act, and the Privacy Act, is desirable.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Prepare response to FOIA request. This includes speaking with the requestors, making file folders, coordinating information with people inside and outside of the agency and responding to questions. Also be responsible for inputting information into FOIAONLINE.
  • Maintains a mail tracking log for ESS#3.
  • Checks and reviews Freedom of Information Number (FOIA), name address and other data for accuracy, and appropriateness before taking the letter down for signature; updates soon due list.

EPA / SEE Environmental Cleanup (ECL) Secretary

NAPCA needs a senior 55 years of age or older (PL-98-313) to work under the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program, for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Seattle, WA.

Required Qualifications: Must be 55 years of age or older. Have at least five years of experience in administrative work, and be proficient working in Windows directory structure, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat. Have excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and high attention to detail.

Job Description: Provide secretarial and administrative support for the Environmental Cleanup Office, including maintaining online calendars, scheduling meetings and conference calls, reserving vehicles, and requesting equipment. File timekeeping and other records, provide word processing and proofreading, create and compile spreadsheets, update databases, share new procedures and information. Manage office mail, manage and maintain office equipment and supplies, ensure phone and reception coverage, and provide administrative support for all other office processes. Other duties as assigned.

Forty (40) hours per week. Temporary, possibly year-to-year, depending on funding. Paid medical insurance, self-paid dental and vision insurance, holidays, vacation, and sick leave. EOE. $15.00 per hour without medical insurance, $13.50 per hour with medical insurance.

EPA SEE ENERGY STAR Buildings Program Coordinator

NAPCA needs a senior 55 years of age or older (PL-98-313) to work under the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program, for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Seattle, Washington.

Qualifications:  Must be at least 55 years of age and have a college degree in energy, science, engineering, or a related technical field, with at least two years of experience in green retrofits, energy audits, energy management and efficiency and/or conservation.  Desired credentials: licensed Professional Engineer (Mechanical Engineering preferred) or Registered Architect. Must possess an ability to work independently, proficiency with PC tools, strong technical skills as well as oral, written, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities and Duties:  Provide leadership, technical support, and general support for the ENERGY STAR Program.  Provide technical research and project planning support for the Region 10 clean energy efforts.  Provide program assistance and information to clients and the public, recruit participants, and partner with regional energy efficiency organizations.  Develop and present ENERGY STAR training.  Maintain working relationship with the national ENERGY STAR program.  Manage the day-to-day program work of the ENERGY STAR programs.  Some travel.

30-40 hours per week, flexible.  Temporary year-to-year.  Holidays, vacation, sick leave, paid medical insurance.  $13.50-$15.00 per hour depending on enrollment in medical insurance. Enrollee-paid dental insurance available. EOE.
