
Today, the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA) announced that Julie J. L. Cheng, James Lum, Maggie “Mankei” Jim, Neerja Kathuria and Peter Y. Soh have been appointed to the organization’s Board of Directors.
“We welcome our newest board members to NAPCA’s Board of Directors. Julie, James, Mankei, Neerja and Peter bring over a generation of leadership and finance experience and we are confident that they will be a significant benefit to NAPCA as we continue our work toward the well-being and quality of life for diverse older Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders,” said Gie Kim, board chair of NAPCA. “We also welcome James in his role as our organization’s treasurer.”
Julie J. L. Cheng, Esq., is the principal and founder of New Bamboo Consulting, which specializes in operational development: strategic planning, corporate and intellectual property strategy, portfolio management, contracts management, business development, alliance management and executive coaching. Ms. Cheng has served as general counsel and vice president for business development at the Institute for OneWorld Health and assistant general counsel at Bayer HealthCare. Ms. Cheng has been active in many community and non-profit organizations, including helping to create the Alameda Community Sailing Center, and participating on the boards of ACSC, the Oakland Yacht Club, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the NAPABA Law Foundation and the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia.
James Lum is a partner in Bridgespan’s Boston office and serves as the organization’s chief financial and information officer. He has served as the chief financial officer for the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, as well as GuideStar (now Candid). In 2014, while at GuideStar, James was recognized with Association Trend’s Nonprofit Transformational CFO of the Year award. Previously, James led financial and technology projects for national and international divisions of media companies including The Wall Street Journal, MTV International, John Wiley & Sons, SiriusXM and Showtime Networks. He is active with a variety of organizations and currently serves on the boards of nonprofits, Aeris Insight and Impact Network.
Maggie “Mankei” Jim is head of finance at Zipline, where she oversees the finances of the company’s focus on designing, manufacturing and operation of delivery drones. Ms. Jim has served in multiple roles at Zipline, including as chief of staff and in positions in global operations and strategic finance. Previously, she served as an engagement manager at Oliver Wyman and in financial roles at The Starter League and Aon Benfield.
Neerja Kathuria is a data product owner at Nestle, where she drives value to Nestle USA’s eCommerce and Marketing by leading the efforts of managing business cases, product backlogs, and sprints in collaboration with Business Owners, IT, external data providers and SMEs. Ms. Kathuria has served in leadership positions at Fortune 100 companies focused on business analysis and development, including Marriot and Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Peter Y. Soh is a managing director at Accenture, the global professional services company, where he is a member of the corporate communications leadership team. With more than 30 years of public relations and corporate communications experience, Mr. Soh provides Accenture senior leaders with strategic communications strategy and counsel, while managing a global team of communications professionals who support a wide range of business areas and geographic markets. He has deep experience in technology PR, issues and reputation management, executive positioning, public affairs and media relations.
NAPCA Helpline
The NAPCA Helpline is currently available with live support for residents in Los Angeles and Seattle in five different languages: English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Korean. All Helpline counselors are available every Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm PST. The Helpline provides resources and information on the COVID-19, voicemail option to collect stories from older adults and their caregivers, and guided meditations in 8 languages.
