Position:  Scientist, Level IV

Location:  Research Triangle Park, NC

NAPCA needs a senior 55 years of age or older (PL-98-313) to work under the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program, for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ORD, located in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 55 years of age, and a US citizen.  Must have a BA or BS in Chemistry or related field (e.g. chemical engineering).  Have a minimum of 2 years related experience in chemical library management, chemistry; previous training in use of chemical structure drawing tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is in the Scientific Computing and Data Curation Division (SCDCD), Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure (CCTE).  The enrollee will serve as chemical curator for the DSSTox Database Project. Position will have responsibilities for quality review and entry of chemical structures and associated chemical substance IDs, and descriptive information for hundreds to thousands of high priority chemicals associated with EPA’s computational research programs.  Other duties include:

  1. Review source information and register new chemical substances with correct structures into the DSSTox chemical database using provided software tools;
  2. Correct and document chemical record changes, store printouts; and
  3. Consult with PI and chemistry team to resolve difficult issues with a chemical representation in the database.

Benefits:

$12.72 per hour / 20 hours per week.  Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.  Enrollee-paid dental and vision plans are available. This position is reviewed yearly and may or may not be renewed.
